Product finder quiz that actually recommends.
Learn what a shopper is trying to achieve, how experienced they are, and what format they will actually use — then match them to the right product and keep every answer on their customer profile.
Replace catalog browsing with a guided decision.
A shopper who lands on a 40-SKU mushroom collection has to become an expert before they can buy. A product finder quiz inverts that: they describe their goal in plain language, and you do the matching. The conversion lift is the obvious win — the durable win is that you now know why each customer bought, not just what they bought.
Every answer becomes a declared preference on the Signal profile, available in Shopify, Klaviyo, and Compass long after the session ends.
What you learn
- The outcome the customer is shopping for
- How much category education they need
- The format they will actually stick with
- When in the day they intend to use it
- Constraints that disqualify part of your catalog
- Whether they are buying for themselves or as a gift
Six questions, in this order.
Goal first, constraints last, email optional at the end. Reordering these is the most common reason a quiz underperforms.

Where to publish it.
A product finder earns its keep when it sits in front of the decision, not behind it.
Storefront landing page
A dedicated /pages/find-your-match URL you can link from the nav, run paid traffic to, and rank for "which mushroom supplement should I take".
Collection page entry
A quiz entry block at the top of a large collection, where the choice paralysis actually happens.
Welcome email
Send the quiz as the second message in your Klaviyo welcome series, before you have any purchase history to personalize with.
Packaging and retail
A QR code on the insert card or shelf talker, so an offline buyer becomes a known, profiled customer.
Exit-intent Spark
If a full quiz is too much friction, ask the single goal question as a Spark and build the rest of the profile later.
Paid social landing
Quiz landing pages usually out-convert product pages for cold traffic because they lead with the customer's problem.
When to trigger it.
First-session visitors
Show the quiz entry within the first few seconds on a collection page, or on exit intent for visitors with no cart. These shoppers have no purchase history to personalize against — declared preference is the only signal available.
Known customers with thin profiles
If a Shopify customer has orders but no Primary Goal, invite them back through the quiz from an email. Signals matches the response to the existing customer instead of creating a second profile.
Post-signup, pre-purchase
Slot the quiz into the welcome flow between the discount email and the bestseller email. It reliably outperforms a generic bestseller send for first-time buyers.
Before a launch
Run the quiz two to three weeks ahead of a new SKU so you have goal-based segments ready to target on launch day rather than blasting the whole list.

Flows worth building
- Quiz results flow — deliver the match, explain why it fits the stated goal, and include a first-order incentive.
- Abandoned quiz flow — triggered by Started Product Finder without Completed Survey, offering to finish in one tap.
- Beginner education series — for Experience Level = Completely new to them, three emails on dosage, timing, and what to expect.
- Format-aware merchandising — send powder buyers powder restock content, not capsule content.
- Goal-based seasonal campaign — segment the whole list by Primary Goal before your next launch.
Suggested audiences.
Optional. Signals is a complete Shopify product on its own — Compass makes these answers work harder alongside behavioral data.
- Focus Seekers — Primary Goal = focus, no Lion's Mane purchase yet.
- Category Beginners — new to functional mushrooms, high education need, low discount sensitivity.
- Format-Constrained Buyers — capsule-only or caffeine-free, for suppressing irrelevant product recommendations.
- Quiz Completers Without Purchase — declared intent, no conversion, ideal for a targeted follow-up.
- High-Intent Multi-Goal — selected two or more goals, historically strong bundle candidates.
Compass combines these declared preferences with orders, engagement, and lifecycle stage to build audiences neither source could produce alone.
