Shopify integration

Built around the customer data already in Shopify.

Signals connects survey responses to Shopify customers, orders, products, tags, and relevant commerce activity. Use purchase history to ask better questions — and use answers to make Shopify data more meaningful.

Installation

Installed from Shopify, in Shopify terms.

Signals is a Shopify app. There is no data upload, no tracking script to hand-place, and no separate customer database to reconcile.

  1. 1. Install from Shopify

Add Signals to your store from the Shopify App Store. Authentication uses Shopify OAuth — you never share a password with Signals.

  2. 2. Review the permissions

Shopify shows exactly which scopes Signals requests before you approve. Nothing is accessed until you grant it.

  3. 3. Create your first survey or Spark

Start from a template or describe what you want to learn and let the AI survey builder draft it.

  4. 4. Publish where customers are

Put it on your storefront, on a thank-you page, in a customer account, or behind a direct link or QR code.

  5. 5. Use what you learn

Responses become customer properties, segments, and analytics — and can be sent onward to Klaviyo or Compass.

Permissions

Least privilege, and nothing more.

Signals requests only the Shopify scopes it needs to do the job you installed it for. Shopify shows every scope before you approve, and you can review them at any time from your admin.

Read our security practices
  • Read customers, so a response can be attached to the person who gave it.
  • Read orders, so a survey can reflect what someone actually bought.
  • Read products, so questions and recommendations can reference your catalog.
  • Write customer properties and tags, so declared preferences become usable in Shopify.
  • Storefront publishing access, so surveys and Sparks can render on your theme.
Customer matching

Every answer, attached to a real person.

A response is only as useful as your ability to connect it to the customer who gave it. Signals matches identity where it genuinely can — and is honest when it cannot.

Logged-in customers

When a customer is signed in to their Shopify account, the response is attached to that customer directly.

Email and order links

A Spark or survey opened from an email or an order-specific link carries the identity of the recipient.

Post-purchase context

A response collected on a thank-you page is associated with the order that just completed.

Anonymous responses

When no identity is available, the response is stored anonymously rather than guessed at. Aggregate analysis still works.

Order & product context

Commerce context makes better questions.

Because Signals can read the orders and products behind a customer, a survey does not have to start from zero. It can ask the question that is actually still open.

  • Ask different questions based on what a customer previously purchased.
  • Reference specific products and variants inside a question.
  • Skip questions you can already answer from order history.
  • Compare declared preferences against actual purchase behavior.
  • Segment responses by order count, lifetime value, or product purchased.
  • Follow a response through to whether the customer reordered.

Customer properties

Answers become data you can act on.

A response that stays inside a survey tool is a report. A response written back to the customer record is a capability.

Customer properties

Turn an answer into a named attribute — Primary Goal, Experience Level, Replenishment Timing — stored against the Shopify customer.

Shopify segments

Build Shopify customer segments from declared preferences the same way you would from purchase behavior.

Metafields

Where supported, declared values can be written to customer metafields so other apps and your theme can read them.

Tags

Apply tags for coarse grouping when a tag is the simplest way to drive an existing workflow.

Storefront publishing

Publish anywhere your customers already are.

Surveys and Sparks render inside your Shopify theme, on post-purchase pages, in customer accounts, or through a hosted link — no developer required for standard placements.

Explore survey experiences
  • Embed a survey or Spark on any storefront page through the Signals theme app embed.
  • Publish to a thank-you or order status page for post-purchase questions.
  • Add a preference center to customer accounts so shoppers maintain their own profile.
  • Share a hosted direct link or QR code for packaging, inserts, retail, and events.
  • Match your storefront styling so the survey reads as part of your brand.
Post-purchase workflows

The moment after checkout is the best moment to ask.

Intent is fresh, attention is high, and the answer arrives before your first onboarding message goes out.

  1. 1. Order completes

A customer finishes checkout and lands on the thank-you page.

  2. 2. A relevant question appears

The Spark reflects what was actually purchased — how they plan to use it, or whether it is a gift.

  3. 3. The answer joins the customer record

The response is attached to the Shopify customer and the order that prompted it.

  4. 4. The next message changes

Onboarding, replenishment timing, and recommendations reflect the answer instead of a generic default.

Example workflows

What merchants build with it.

  • Ask different questions based on previous purchases.
  • Build a profile from both behavior and declared preferences.
  • Trigger a follow-up after a specific product purchase.
  • Recommend products based on customer goals.
  • Distinguish a gift purchaser from the actual product user.
  • Learn why a customer did or did not reorder.
Uninstall & data retention

Your data stays yours, including on the way out.

Every claim here corresponds to an implemented control. If you leave, leaving should be straightforward.

Read the privacy policy
  • You own your customer responses for as long as you keep the app installed.
  • Data retention is configurable, so responses are not held longer than you want.
  • Export your full response history at any time.
  • Uninstalling revokes Signals access to your Shopify data immediately.
  • After uninstall, stored response data is removed on the schedule described in our privacy documentation, and immediate deletion can be requested.
  • Customer data deletion requests are supported.

Shopify integration questions

How do I install Signals on Shopify?

Install Signals from the Shopify App Store. Authentication uses Shopify OAuth, Shopify shows you the exact permissions requested before you approve, and you can create your first survey or Spark immediately after installing.

What Shopify permissions does Signals request?

Signals follows a least-privilege approach: read access to customers, orders, and products so responses carry real commerce context, write access to customer properties and tags so declared preferences become usable, and storefront publishing access so surveys can render on your theme.

How are survey responses matched to Shopify customers?

Responses are matched through a logged-in customer account, an identified email or order link, or post-purchase context on the thank-you page. When no identity is available the response is stored anonymously rather than guessed at.

Can survey answers be written back to Shopify?

Yes. Answers can become customer properties, tags, and — where supported — customer metafields, so you can build Shopify segments from declared preferences alongside purchase behavior.

What happens to my data if I uninstall Signals?

Uninstalling immediately revokes Signals access to your Shopify data. Stored response data is removed on the schedule described in our privacy documentation, you can export your responses beforehand, and immediate deletion can be requested.
