Shopify merchants
You have the orders and the customers. You want the reasons behind them, without a research project or a developer.
Signals Surveys is part of Compass, the AI-first customer intelligence platform. Explore Compass
Signals Surveys exists to close that gap — by making it easy to ask, and impossible for the answer to go nowhere.
This is the argument in full. If you disagree with step two, nothing after it will convince you — and that is fair.
Every Shopify store has an accurate, complete record of transactions. Orders, products, dates, values, repeat rates. It is genuinely good data and it is completely uncontroversial.
Purchase history cannot tell you whether someone bought for themselves or as a gift, whether they are new to the category or an expert, what problem they were trying to solve, what nearly stopped them, or what they want next. The most valuable customer facts are the ones the order record does not contain.
Not a form bolted onto a thank-you page. A survey product designed around the assumption that the answer will be used — attached to a real customer, in the store where the relationship already exists.
Writing a good survey is a skill most merchants do not have time to develop. Describe what your business is trying to learn and Signals proposes the structure, the questions, the answer choices, the branching, and the customer properties worth creating. You edit rather than start from a blank page.
The same answer means different things from a first-time buyer and a twelve-order regular. Because Signals reads customers, orders, and products, every response arrives already connected to who gave it and what they have done. You can also ask better questions in the first place — because you know what they bought.
Signals sends survey events to Klaviyo and syncs profile properties, so a declared preference becomes a segment, a flow trigger, a personalized message. In Compass, the same responses enrich unified profiles and shape audiences and recommendations. The answer stops being a data point and becomes something the business does.
A Spark is one question, asked in the moment it matters — in an email, on the storefront, after purchase, in a customer account. No long survey, no fatigue. Progressive profiling means each small answer adds to what you already know instead of restarting the conversation.
That is the whole point. Not a report you read once, but a Signal profile that gets more useful with every interaction, until the difference between a good customer relationship and a generic one is simply that you bothered to ask.
These are not values statements. Each one is a decision we made that a different team would reasonably have made differently.
Behavioral modeling guesses at intent from clicks and carts. A customer telling you their goal in one tap is more accurate than a model inferring it from a hundred sessions — and it is honest about where the information came from.
Most survey tools end at a chart. We think a response has done its job only when it has changed a segment, a message, a recommendation, or a decision about what to make next.
The twenty-question annual survey is a relic. One well-placed question, answered in a second, repeated over a customer relationship, produces a richer profile and annoys nobody.
Customers give this information to a brand they chose to buy from. That data belongs to the merchant, is exportable, is deletable, and is never sold. That is not a policy we wrote for a page — it is a constraint we built around.
Signals Surveys is part of the Compass customer intelligence platform. Here is exactly what that means — and what it does not.
The customer intelligence and engagement platform — unified profiles, audiences, AI campaign creation, and messaging.
The survey and declared-data collection product within the Compass ecosystem — and a complete Shopify app in its own right.
Short, low-friction micro-surveys created and managed within Signals — one question, asked where it matters.
Signals does not require Compass. A Shopify merchant using Signals with Shopify and Klaviyo gets a complete product with nothing missing and no upsell wall. Compass adds unified profiles, audiences, and campaign tools on top — it enhances Signals, it is never a prerequisite. We say this on every page that mentions Compass because it is the question merchants most often ask.
Not researchers. Merchants, marketers, and founders who need the response to change something by Friday.
You have the orders and the customers. You want the reasons behind them, without a research project or a developer.
You live in Klaviyo. You want segments built on what customers actually told you, not only on what they clicked.
You do not have a research budget or a data team. You need a useful question written, published, and acted on the same day.
You already have unified profiles and audiences. Signals adds the one thing behavior cannot supply — what the customer says.
Compass is a customer intelligence and engagement platform. Signals Surveys is the survey and declared-data collection product within the Compass ecosystem, and Sparks are the short micro-surveys created and managed inside Signals. Signals is a complete Shopify product on its own — Compass enhances it and is never a prerequisite.
No. A form builder collects answers. Signals connects each answer to a real Shopify customer, combines it with commerce behavior, creates usable customer attributes, and activates them in Klaviyo and Compass where your marketing already happens.
No. Signals works with Shopify and Klaviyo without a Compass subscription. Compass makes Signals more powerful by adding unified profiles, audiences, and campaign tools, but Signals is designed to be genuinely complete without it.
The merchant. Responses can be exported at any time, retention is configurable, data is deleted on request, and we never sell merchant customer data.
