Sparks make it easy to collect one useful customer signal at exactly the right moment.
A Spark is a short, focused customer interaction designed to collect one useful piece of information with minimal friction. No introduction, no progress bar, no page to complete — just one question worth answering.
Because a Spark asks for so little, it can be asked often. Each answer becomes part of the same Signal profile a full survey contributes to, so small interactions add up to a real understanding of the customer.
What matters most today?
An answer of “Focus” sets the customer’s Primary Goal and can trigger the matching Klaviyo flow.
Illustrative example.
The shorter the ask, the more often customers respond — and the more often you can ask.
One question takes a moment to answer, so more customers actually answer it.
Ask at the moment the question makes sense — right after a purchase, or inside the email a customer just opened.
Small questions can be asked often, so what you know about a customer stays current.
Each Spark adds one more attribute to the Signal profile instead of demanding everything at once.
Test an idea, a claim, or a product direction in days rather than planning a full research project.
An embedded question turns a broadcast into an interaction — the customer answers without leaving the message.
Put the question where the customer already is. A Spark can run anywhere you reach them.
Embed a Spark directly in a campaign or flow so answering takes a single tap.
Publish a Spark on your Shopify storefront where customers are already browsing.
Ask one question after checkout, while intent and expectations are still fresh.
Let returning customers keep their own preferences up to date.
Bridge packaging, inserts, and physical retail into your customer profiles.
Collect interest and feedback in the room, on a phone, in seconds.
Share a Spark anywhere you can share a URL — SMS, social, support replies.
Run Sparks as part of a Compass campaign when you use Signals alongside Compass.
A Spark is only worth asking if the answer changes something. Every response follows the same path.
One question, one tap — in an email, on your storefront, after purchase, or through a direct link.
Where the response can be matched to a Shopify customer, it is attached to that customer profile alongside their orders, products, and previous answers.
The answer becomes a customer property, a segment, a flow trigger, or an audience — so the next message reflects what the customer just told you.

A Spark is a short, focused customer interaction designed to collect one useful piece of information with minimal friction. It can appear in an email, on your storefront, after purchase, inside a customer account, through a direct link, or as a follow-up to a larger survey.
A survey collects a set of related answers in one sitting. A Spark asks one question at the moment it is most relevant. Both feed the same Signal profile — Sparks simply lower the effort required to contribute to it.
Yes. A Spark can be embedded in an email so the customer answers with a single tap, without leaving the message.
Where the response can be matched to a Shopify customer, it is attached to that customer profile and can become a customer property, a Klaviyo segment or flow trigger, or a Compass audience. Anonymous responses are also supported when identity is not available.
No. Sparks are part of Signals and work with Shopify and Klaviyo on their own. Compass adds campaign placement and cross-product intelligence, but it is never a prerequisite.
Install Signals and publish your first Spark to email, your storefront, or a thank-you page.
